A text-based storyboard, written before any code: every scene is a decision with a consequence, not a slide. The plan below is the build contract — scene count, interaction logic, feedback placement and the debrief arc.
| # | Scene | On screen | The learner decides | Right path | Tempting path | Consequence shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cohort A: the loud comment | engagement flat, comment tile full of complaints | pick the real signal | L2 delta + completion pattern diagnosed; comment is symptom | reacts to the comment tile | interventions scored misaligned: the complaint was the smoke, not the fire |
| 2 | Cohort B: the quiet drop | dashboard mostly green, one delta sliding | pick the real signal | the delta is the story; green tiles are noise | sees green, declares healthy | diagnosis gate blocks intervention until a story is named |
| 3 | The 2-of-6 round | six interventions, cap enforced | choose two | both aligned to the diagnosed story | picks the two loudest | scoring shows alignment, not activity — doing less, chosen better |
| 4 | Three stories side by side | cohort debrief grid | compare | same grammar, different diseases named | merges cohorts into one average | debrief: merging hid all three root causes; the grammar is shared, the diseases are not |
Cohorts are re-randomized on retry; the diagnosis gate never reveals the designed story until an intervention commit.
Debrief scores signal selection, intervention alignment, and the discipline of the cap — per cohort, then side by side.
